Description xkjyeah 2008-05-24 07:36:16 UTC
IDEA: Take out the names from the Area Style/Filling and Line Color tools.
Present colours in table form, like in text color selection.

Rationale:
The colour shown on the screen itself tells me more about it than the name of
the colour. Name is redundant. "Turquoise 1" is useless to me. A shade of
turquoise on the screen does.

Benefits: Save screen estate, dispense with scrolling, easier to FIND and pick
colors... even if the palette sorted the colours frustratingly illogically and
unintuitively (e.g. why are Yellow and Brown so far from other shades of
Yellow? It can be frustrating if you spend hours scrolling from Yellow 1 to
Yellow 8 not finding the pure yellow). It will be particularly helpful if
colours have been randomly placed all over a custom palette.

I repeat: It can be frustrating if you spend hours scrolling from Yellow 1 to
Yellow 8 not finding the pure yellow. So don't let the user scroll. Give him a
table. Thank you.

To manage the many suggestions for enhancing the color palette, I have created a
meta-issue here:
Issue 105642 - Re-design and UI improvements for color palettes (meta-issue)

The purpose of the new issue is for management only, it does not duplicate
specific design requests (that we wish to capture).

Many thanks,
Andrew
