Description padmavyuha 2008-06-06 21:04:01 UTC
When choosing the option File->Send->Email as Microsoft Word... the user cannot choose which version
of Word to send to the email app for emailing. It appears that Writer defaults to MS Word 97? It would be
really good to have the same Word format options that are available in the Save As dialogue, i.e. Word
97/95/v6/2004 etc..

MRU->FL: could be a good thing to offer this - also RTF could be a good offer to
the user.

RTF is problematic, in that OpenOffice can make something from a doc with text and images that it calls
an RTF file, but which quite often can't be opened/read by other apps that open RTF files. As I understand
it, technically only an RTFD file can hold both text and images.

If RTFD support is added to OOo and a warning of Word compatibility (I believe
Office:Mac reads RTFD, not sure tho), and a warning displayed for plain RTF
about images, that might be acceptable, although as far as I know only Macs have
programs that read RTFD. Didn't one version of Word save in RTF, what did MS use
then for embedding images? It is an MS format, after all.

It may be these options should be set in Writer Options, or there be two submenu
items, so it is still quick without going through a lot of options; so if the
recipient always uses the latest Word, DocX can be selected as the Default, or
97 format for backwards compatibility, or RTFD if for an Office:Mac user...
