Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 91536
Languages for documents reverts to English
Last modified: 2008-07-10 16:26:27 UTC
I use Windows XP pro English, with US keyboard layout and two "input language" : English (United states) AND French (Switzerland) (with US and Swiss french keyboard settings). My default "input language" is English (United States). OpenOffice 3.0m23 installed version is en-US (english). In OpenOffice, I set my "Default language for documents" (western) to "French (France)". All other settings are default. 1) When I create a new document, it shows first in the status bar "French (France)". Then, when I type any word and Enter, it reverts to "English (USA)"! The spelling correction of my first paragraph turn to "english"! 2) When I try to change the spelling language of a text document, with - "Tools - Language - For all text (or selection or paragraph)" or - Select all, and "Format - Character - Font - Language" to "French (France)", it also reverts to "English (USA)" as soon as I press Enter! No way to keep default language to "French (France)"!!! (Note that the dictionary is installed). Is it due to the fact that my keyboard layout is US english and/or my local settings and input language is also English (United States)??!? Anyway, I guess that it shout be possible to set the language of a document, independently of any other OS setting. Regards.
Reassigned to SBA.
SBA: This is indeed a new feature. We picked up issue 1035 (yes, from June 2001!) and implemented it for OOo 3.0. So in order to keep your French text French (And to write correct French with accents and the like :-) you must switch the keyboard to French input. Please note how the original submitter of that issue prefers to work in multi-language documents: Windows eases to switch between the input languages with keyboard sequences that you can define. In the Windows "Control Panel", see the "Regional and language options", tab "Languages... -> Details... -> Key Settings..." Set issue to "invalid".
Closing this one. SBA-> Milaa001: Thank you for this hint. In issue 1035, MBA already "Thought loudly" about UI for this. I just wrote that issue (Type: "Feature" as UI is required): Issue 91552.
