1: Open the attached file on Windows using OOo 2.4.0. Note that
the extension line is pointing right at the three question marks.
2: Open the file on Linux using OOo 2.4.1. The extension line
will point to the curly bracket instead.

Note that I have the same "courier new" font installed on both
computers (using the MS Core font). I've a very long odt file
that looks exactly the same on both computers. So it shouldn't
be a font issue.
