Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 92594
Automatic online update overrides installed UI language
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:42:10 UTC
Hi there, Firstly, I would like to thank you for the effort and energy invested into my best-liked word-processor. Secondly: Although I am German, I do prefer working with the English user interface of OO. When updating OO automaticly defaults to the country-setting- language of the machine. Instead of installing the installed user-interface language, I end up with loathsome German. This required a renewed download, and a offline-installation. Since installations do not happen on a daily base, I tend to forget, and next time I run into the exact same cycle of tedious idiocy. I suggest to modify that behaviour to one of three possibilities: a) Detect installed language and stick to that. b) Detect installed language and if deviating from country-settings, ask user to select/confirm desired language. c) Allow user-interface-language to be selectable from the interface itself (as ATARI was able to do some 15 years ago). Thank you for considering user preference over system settings. Kind Regards Jürgen
It won't be easy to decide the desired language for my PC, I have installed de, fr, it, en, es, nl :-/ I agree, for most users it would be comfortable to have a preselection (may be in menu 'tools -> options -> OOo -> Online Update) as requested.
