Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 92804
OOo crashes, when I try to open an existing document (access violation)
Last modified: 2008-09-01 17:53:11 UTC
Hi, I'm not able to open an existing document with this version. I've installed everything correctly on my computer with Mandriva Linux 2007.1, no error messages. Before installing m2, I uninstalled m1, so that nothing would interfere. When I select the file, that I want to open, I just see the message, that the file is being accessed (Dokument wird geöffnet) and then OOo dies. I don't get any useful error messages on the console either - in fact, I get none. The only message I receive (in the gui) is, that OOo encountered an unexpected error and that my files will be restored by the next start of OOo. That's it. This happened with several files, one is about 1 MB large, the other is about 262 KB. I know, that OOo can handle much bigger files, that's why I am so surprised. I will add one of the files for you, so that you can examine more and hopefully find out, what the error is. Sigrid
Created attachment 55792 [details] One file, that I could not open with m2
I have similar report from Mac/Intel user. I will test if this happens if you open OOO300_m2 with a new user /user environment
Reassigned to Framework.
Hi all, I cannot confirm this issue. Just installed m2 on XP SP2 and opened and saved the file without problems. So it would be very helpfull if somebody can confirm and be more specific about the problem.
this seems to be a similar problem as http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=86389 one member of the German comunity send us this error message /opt/ooo-dev3/program/../basis-link/ure-link/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by /usr/lib/qt3/plugins/inputmethods/libqscim.so) /opt/ooo-dev3/program/../basis-link/ure-link/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by /usr/lib/qt3/plugins/inputmethods/libqscim.so)" so I set it to new
I have simlar problems with m2 on XP Home Hungarian version, and more see: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=92639
@ r4zoli: You do not have a similar problem, Sigrid has a "file open" problem. @ Mechthilde: You confirmed Sigrid's problem or anything else? I think it doesn't make sense to start a "I have sometimes problems with files" thread here. It doesn't help to fix the issue and it doesn't help Sigrid. This issue is still "unconfirmed" for me, because it worked for me. (OS=All?)
Hm, I've sent today several error reports to sun. I give you the codes, that I got back: r7vd4uc rpvd4uc r5vd4uc In case, that it is important: I'm using fluxbox as window manager. I hope, this will help you. Sigrid

Cannot confirm on Linux. Corrupted download? System not really clean? I think it would be better to clarify this issue on the QA or releases board.
changed status => works for me
Could you give me the correct md5sum for the m2? I couldn't find them. This is, what I get: 7dfae774ded3c76f0960beb45ea5fb31 Desktop/OOo-Dev_OOO300_m2_LinuxIntel_install_ en-US.tar.gz ce4ec75e4a8b74b3c9487e87b76c0e7c Desktop/OOo-Dev_OOO300_m2_LinuxIntel_ langpack_de.tar.gz
Oh, I just found the md5sums myself. The download was correct, the two md5sums match. @ul What do you mean by "system not really clean"? I've uninstalled the older snapshot first. Normally, rpm (or better urpme) removes everything. But if you prefer, I could do a search to find something, that might be a leftover from an older version. Just give me a hint what to search for. Sigrid
Hi Sigrid, What we see from the stacks right now, is that your problem is somehow related to locale/spellchecker but we have no idea how to reproduce it at this point. Did you remove your old user directory?
Hi, another try. :) I've uninstalled everything completely and moved my user directory (with the user settings). After doing so I installed again m2. Now, I could open one of the files that I couldn't open earlier - but OOo crashed, when I tried to close the file. After this, I started m2 again, tried to open the file, that I've already attached to this issue and again, OOo crashed during the starting procedure. I just get the following error message: "Durch einen unerwarteten Fehler ist OOo-Dev abgestürzt. Alle Dateien, an denen Sie gearbeitet haben, werden gespeichert. Beim nächsten Start von OOo- Dev werden Ihre Dokumente wieder hergestellt." I've send reports again to sun. Here is my code number: rgf24uc I try to install m2 on my WinXP partition as well and tell here, what I encountered there. :) Sigrid
Hi again, I could not reproduce the problem with the Windows version. I could give you some more error report numbers, because I just sent some more again - everytime my m2 crashes. Hm, I have some work to do, so maybe I should stop playing with m2 and start working again with 2.4.1 :) I hope, that you can find a solution for this problem. rxf24uc rm624uc rk624uc Sigrid
@ Sigrid We hope that too, thanks a lot for your work. Have a nice weekend :-)
@ul: I have the same problems as Sigrid has in a different Mandriva setup. I have Mandriva 2008.1 together with KDE 3.5.9. I installed OOO300_m2 and after the launch I can do nothing but take a look at the open OOo. Each action equal if it's opening a document or typing some text I causes OOo to crash. It looks like I'm not able to send a crash report I just get the file recovery dialog. Is there a chance for me to get an error code or something similar? The only think I got was this output on the console: # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0xae340000, pid=15193, tid=3047302848 # # Java VM: OpenJDK Client VM (1.7.0-b24 mixed mode linux-x86) # Problematic frame: # C 0xae340000 # I first thought it is because of the icedtea but the same happens with Sun Java 1.6.0 Update 5 which is the latest Sun Java Mandriva provides. Shall I try Update 7?
becausse of the last comments (esp. of maveric) I reopen this issue
TM->MAV: please have a look a this one too. Perhaps you might have an idea. We weren't able to reproduce this problem. Thanks in advance !
TM->MAV: As requested by MH, I reassign this one to you.
TM->TL: please have a look, thanks
.
The cause for the problem is not exactly known since it can still not be reproduced. However I fixed a potential problem that may have caused this. Fixed in CWS tl61. Files changed: - svtools/inc/svtools/lingucfg.hxx - svtools/source/config/lingucfg.cxx
TL->QA: Please check that all linguistic functionality is still properly working.
TL->SB: Since this issue was not reproducable by us, can you verify the code change we had discussed? (just using one XChangesBatch) See - svtools/inc/svtools/lingucfg.hxx - svtools/source/config/lingucfg.cxx Thanks!

With the tl61 build from the O3 buildbot OOo 3.0 no longer crashes under Mandriva. @eskroni: Please download the build from http://termite.go-oo.org/install_sets/O3-build-3327-tl61-install_set.zip and test it so that it not only runs on my Mandriva 2008.1 Please integrate this cws or the fix into the final OOo 3.0
Hi, I've tested with this version and the two documents, that made m2 crash immediately. I can say now, that this version works for me as well. So if this code could be integrated in OOo 3.0, this would be great. Thanks for your good work. Sigrid
Using OOO300_m4 I can open, edit and type Text within writer. Calc documents work as well. No immediate crash. Therefore closing the issue.
