When selecting a full column in Calc, I've found that if you do a find and 
replace it will replace the whole spreadsheet rather than the selected column 
or row.

When you ran the Find and Replace, did you have the option

Current selection only

checked off?

Set to worksforme, because no comment from user, will be closed in
about 2 weeks
