Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 93517
Menu File/Send does not work
Last modified: 2009-09-18 10:31:36 UTC
Can not e-mail the document from within Writer - the links do not open up my mail client and do not attach the document to the e-mail
Reassigned to HI.
I am running the same platform, OS and software version and am encountering exactly the same issue: after saving a writer document, I am unable to mail it, unless I close Writer, then attempt to resend using my Mail client.
I confirm tpf1952 comment. My platform : OsX 10.5.5 (leopard), Mail 3.5 or Thunderbird as mail client ... and OpenOffice 3 final release. The file/send command is working as long as it is a new document that has not been recorded... but the filename of the attachment is "noname.doc", "noname.odt" or "noname.pdf" !!! The software does not ask you to save the document before requiring the mail client and attach the document to it. Strange. BUT, as soon as the document is recorded (or used with a file that is already recorded and opened again for modification), the file/send command is not working. Nothing happens.
Do you have spaces in your saved files? Just see issue 95111
Yes, this is now assigned to this issue because in #9511 it was determined that the "send as email" feature is not working when there are spaces in the file name. This is the exact problem that I am having and confirms it with each new filename with spaces in the name and with existing files that have spaces in the file name. Also interesting to note. If an existing file has spaces...and the file is renamed to have no spaces, the file still fails on the "send as email" button or menu command.
Hi everyone I have the same problem but for me it work find with Mail (the Mac default client) and a file name without space But with thunderbird, the program start but no new mail writing windows open so with not attaching document ...
I am testing the ooo-dev310m7 and the „File → Send → Document as E-mail Option" still does not work properly even when no spaces or other strange characters are in the file-name. When executed, now the Main-Window of Mail comes up but not the required „New E-mail“ Window of Apple Mail. This might seem a progress compared to older versions in september last year when nothing happened at all. But it is still useless to sending an e-mail with the attached document-file, because you still have to resort to choose the new e-mail-Option manually and attach the file manually as well. In a nutshell: It seems that the File-Send-Option executes the wrong command Regards Frieder
Ok, this issue seems to be fan out To avoid this, please compare with issue 97607 & 95111 If you still have a problem with: - file name without space & - Apple mail then provide a dummy file which is named in that way where we can evaluate it. Thanks for your effort. On my mac, Send - Document as E-mail... works with Apple mail like a charm Verified with OOo310m7_9393

@frieder2008: I see your problem but I can't reproduce it. - I've installed the OOo301 by drag&drop on my desktop as OpenOffice.org Did the send mail test and close office - Then I've replaced OpenOffice.org on my desktop with OOO310m7_9393 Test send mail again and it sill works. - How did you install your versions? - Do you have any extensions installed?
rbircher > hi No, that's not a dub of issue 97607 I used a filename without spaces, and I get no Mail Window with the File. but I'm not sure if it's a problem of OOo or of Thunderbird. Because other people write in this issue that it works with Mail (the default mail client for Mac)
.
It depends on what is set in Preferences… > Internet > E-Mail (using OOo MacIntel 3.1.1)l: If it is left blank, Apple Mail will be used. If the document was saved before, it will open an empty mail with the file attached, no matter if its name contains blanks. That's what we want. If the document was _not_ saved before, Apple Mail will start or bring Mail to front but does _not_ generate a new mail at all. If in Preferences… > Internet > E-Mail there is something like "/Applications/Thunderbird.app", then Thunderbird will start, if it is not running. Elsewhere, it will do nothing. This problem is discussed in issue 57043 *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 57043 ***
