Description max.odendahl 2008-10-01 16:21:01 UTC
The new notes use the UI font of the system for text, on MS Vista, this is Segoe
UI.

When looking at notes on a system without this font, it looks extremly ugly, see
attached screenshot, font replacement algorithm does not seem to work correctly.

Comment 2 hdu@apache.org 2008-10-06 14:30:07 UTC
@sba/mod: please suggest fonts from the system having the problem that look similiar and have similar
metrics to the missing fonts
Comment 3 hdu@apache.org 2008-10-06 14:40:18 UTC
@mod: some stupid questions:
- does the new notes implementation use the default font when it is not explicitly specified?
- is this font name saved in the document?
If the answer is yes for both questions then I suggest to not save the font name unless it is explicitly set.
The default font on the target system should be fine.
Comment 4 max.odendahl 2008-10-06 14:52:02 UTC
mod->hdu:

- it tries to get a UI font without serif, as the notes are on screen most of
the time

- as you can change the font and have several different ones inside a note, it
is saved and loaded

Regarding a similar font, I have no idea, maybe sba can help? Or can we just use
Tahoma instead, as this is the previous used font on Windows and therefore might
be similar?

mod->christophnoack: should we think about disabling the setting of a different
font completly and could therefore always use the default UI font?
Comment 5 hdu@apache.org 2008-10-06 16:08:16 UTC
@mod: I'd advise against "hard formatting of styles" unless they are explicitly set
Anyway, that would be a good topic for another issue, but not for this one.

In this issue I'll have a look at the problem that the text in the screenshot looks really bad. I'm wondering
if there are other than the new notes implementation that suffer so badly from this problem?
Comment 6 max.odendahl 2008-10-06 16:16:04 UTC
->hdu: well, note should behave like any other EditEngine user, so I guess the
same thing should e.g show up as well inside drawing objects.

Btw, the original report came from ufi, maybe you can check this on his system
Comment 7 hdu@apache.org 2010-07-29 10:12:30 UTC
With issue 93818 (Notes got rid of its refdev) fixed in OOO330 (and >=DEV300_m84) the root cause of this
problem is fixed too: a wrong refdev results in a wrong text layout
