Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 95111
"Send Email" does not work when saved file contains space
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:44:35 UTC
Sending document as email is an important issue and much needed. However, the feature only works if sending an Open Office file or a completely new document (even if default is set to save as Word). If I open a Word file and then try to send the document as a email, nothing happens. Sometimes I get a dialog that says error occured...check settings. All of my settings are correct. If I open a ODT file, sending as email works fine. If I open a ODT file, and choose send as Word file in email, it works fine. If I create a new file and choose send as email, it works fine. The issue is when I open an existing Word file...the send as email does not work via the button or the menu selection.
I checked with "Ooo 3.0.0 RC3 Multilingual version English UI WIN XP: [OOO300m8 (Build9357)]" and a self created word97 document; I can NOT confirm the reported effect. Mac-specific?
Can't confirm also with Mac& OOo 3.0
You can't confirm it? What does that mean? It happens every time on my Mac....not just some of the time, every time. Please post what steps you are taking to confirm.
@kzuk9237: YOU should please contribute a clear and detailed step by step instruction containing all observations (error messages ...), every key press and every mouse click how to reproduce the problem, and explain why you believe that your results are unexpected. Additionally a sample file will be useful.
Does the Word document contain a space or other charakters than 0-9 and/or a-z?
My steps: Apple mail is not open! - Open an existing MS-Doc file with OOo 3.0 (OOO300m9_9358) - Click Document as E-mail button -> Apple mail program opens with the file attached I get the same over file menu Just provide a sample where you can reproduce the issue. Maybe we can evaluate better then.
I am still having trouble with this. I am using OS X 10.5.5 and Apple Mail is my default email application. The feature is Oo3 works fine with a new, un-named file. But when I open a MS Word document and click on button labeled "Document as email" I now get the following error... "An error occurred in sending the message. Possible errors could be a missing user account or a devective setup. Please check the OpenOffice.org settings or your email program settings." My Apple Mail settings are in working order using my gmail account....obviously it works because if I click New Text Document, type some text, and click on the icon "Document as email", it works as it should. This would also mean that my settings in OpenOffice.org are setup correctly. Also, this error happens if Apple Mail is open or closed. Again, this is only working when I open a previously saved Word document....previously saved ODT files are fine.
MRU->HI: this is reproducible on MAC when the file name has a space character. It is independent from odt or doc format. Having files like "Test case.odt" or "Test 14.doc" the "Send document as Email" menu won't do anything. Please assign this to responsible developer. Thanks.
Nice catch @kzuk9237: Can you confirm the circumstances? For me it is reproducible like mru described OBR: Please have a look.
Yes, same issue with me. Good catch MRU. However, I noticed that if I take a Word document that had a space in it "church vision.docx" and rename it to "churchvision.docx" it still does not send as email. For me the file has to be originally named with no spaces. ken
I am no longer the maintainer of that code.
@hro: Do you need another filed issue for the *.docx format?
I am confused with the way the issues works. Did this error get dropped? Moved? Fixed? How does this work...does OO3 actually put out releases and fixes? I am wanting to put more energy into making a go without MS Office, but only if I know issues are going to be fixed.
I just ran into this issue with a native odt Document which is saved as a Word .doc for some friends who don't have OOo installed. Since the original Document had a space in it, eg "Document Movie 01.doc" I used the same naming for the native odt Document. "Document Movie 02.odt". When I now hit the "Document as E-Mail" button in Standard Toolbar nothing happens. Again nothing happens when I use Send out of the File Menu. I tried to use Send - Document as E-Mail Send - E-mail as Open Document Text Send - E-mail as Microsoft Word Send - E-mail as PDF Neither does Mail start and show the document attached nor does anything else happen. If Mail is open at the time I try to send the document it won't come to front and show me a blank new E-mail with the document attached. When I rename the document to "Document_Movie_02" every above mentioned way of sending as E-mail works. Adding myself and loria to CC. @loria: Could you pleae try to verify if the issue indeed only occures when there is a space or any non a-z and 0-9 chars in the file name?
Is this issue being worked on? This is a serious flaw for me in my workflow.
Since the Target milestone is set to 3.1 I assume that the fix will be in OOo 3.1
move target to 3.2.
Are there release dates for 3.1 3.2?
HI->KSO: This issue should be fixed no later than OOo 3.2 Summary changed from: "Send Email" does not work with saved Word document
cd: Please take over.
cd: We missed the OOo 3.2 release and I have to shift this issue to the next release.
*** Issue 95126 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. ***
cd: Too late to fixed for OOo 3.3. Must be shifted to next release.
set target 3.x since not relevant for 3.4 release.
