Description bwlang 2002-11-26 05:24:33 UTC
A simple document containing a simple equation can be found at the referenced
URL.

When one chooses to save this document as a web page the text is created
properly but the gif images creates are corrupt.

Ideally png files would be created but it would also be
reasonable to fix the gif outputting stuff.

I'm using the debian openoffice packages
1.0.1-5+woody.2

Brad,
I saved the attached file as html, and although the quality of the gif is low, it's not corrupt. Can you attach an example of the corrupt gif that is created from the same document on your system?
Thanks, -- Liz.

-----------email from brad----------
I'm not sure of the protocol here (ie do i need to send you mail as well
as update the bug)...
in any case - i've attached the corrupt gif to the bug as you
requested.

I was a bit nervous that maybe i'd screwed something up but it's still a
corrupt gif. Maybe it's a build problem on linux...

thanks for spending your time working on openoffice!

Hi Brad,

I looked at the attachment, and confirm it does not display correctly.

LZW compression for GIFs may have been left out of the Debian OO.org binary and source due to patent issues. Reference the debian-legal mailing list here:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2002/debian-legal-200210/msg00259.html
I'll find out more and post back here.

It's preferred to post here, so it's logged in the database -- I get an email copy when you do.
Thanks, --Liz

Confirmed this is not an issue in OpenOffice.org. The feature was removed by Debian packagers. From the changelog:
openoffice.org (1.0.1-5) unstable; urgency=low
<snip>
  * Remove non-free LZW compression code: Save to html no longer works if there are graphics in the document.

Hi, I've only just realised this issue was here. Issue 4950 is open
and describes the problem that needs to be solved before we can get
this fixed in Debian.

details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
