Description blilly 2008-10-27 00:03:16 UTC
On one system of three tested, the intro splash screen is skewed (screenshot
to be attached). The native screen size is 1280x720 (16:9 aspect ratio).
This does not happen on the two other systems tested (both 4:3 aspect ratio).
It does happen even if the screen dimensions are changed (with randr) to a 4:3
aspect ratio (xquery -r reports expected values in each case). It happens
under KDE 3, KDE 4, IceWM, and TWM. If /usr/share/ooo3/program/intro.bmp is
replaced by the version from ooo2 or by a .BMP generated from the very
different looking "splash screen ... for OpenOffice.org 3" at
http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=455&expandFolder=455&folderID=455
the problem does not occur.

Seems to be some interaction between screen dimensions, BMP structure or
dimensions, and oosplash.bin.

Wrong component. Reassigned.
Comment 3 philipp.lohmann 2008-10-27 11:16:45 UTC
There is no such thing as "oosplash.bin" in OpenOffice.org. Also it does not
install to /usr/share. Looks like you got yourself an go-oo build either from
your distribution or from go-oo directly.

thb: that seems to be your baby

Taking this bug, it's my area ;-)

blilly: I wonder, what is the bpp (bits per pixel) of the X server on the
affected machines? And what is the exact version of OOo you are running?
I've fixed such an issue already, but might have happened that I omitted some
cases.

To get the bpp, run:

xdpyinfo > output.txt

and attach the file output.txt here to this bug.

I'm not sure what distro are you using, but ideally, I'd be interested in
something like rpm -q OpenOffice_org [for rpm-based distro where the name of
the package is OpenOffiece_org - eg. openSUSE ;-)], or start OOo, Help ->
About OpenOffice.org and paste here the last line (Build: x.y.z).

Distribution is openSuSE 11.0, Update from the 3.0.0.3.5-1.1-i586 rpm in the
OOo:Stable community repository.

rpm -q OpenOffice_org yields:
OpenOffice_org-3.0.0.3.5-1.1

Same problem reported in Debian bug tracker:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=513746

Possible caused by having an odd horizontal size for the bmp image? Resizing the
image to an even horizontal size fixed the problem for me.
