Description dchallener 2008-11-07 03:15:47 UTC
In Open Office 3.0, I have a document with multiple formulas in it. I need to
change the font size on a number of the formulas. As I do this, one by one, the
formulas take longer and longer to open the formula editor. After opening up
about 20, it takes 5 seconds to open a formula. If I continue, it takes longer
and longer. If I save the file, close open office, and reopen, opening up the
formula editor is instantaneous again. This has been true for documents with a
large number of formulas for many versions. If I write a formula, select it and
then use alt-i,o,f instead, it goes very fast. If I open up the editor and then
start typing in the formula, after doing 20 formulas or so, it begins to take a
long time to open up the editor.

I can confirm this bug. I use Openoffice 3.01 on Linux (Debian Lenny) and
entering formulas severely slows down when the document has lot of equations.
Each time a new equation is entered, the access time to the formula editor
becomes longer (several tenths of seconds).
If the document is closed and reopened, the access time becomes short again but
the time increases as long as the formula editor is used.
Would be nice if the bug could be fixed soon.
Best regards,

This is not a problem of a memory leak. The number of OLE objects allowed in
memory is set to 20 by default. To workaround this, go to
Tools.Options.OpenOffice.Memory and set the number of OLE objects (Cache for
inserted objects) to a higher number.

MRU->MAV: I think in times of GigaByte computers we can rise the default to 100
or more objects IME.

Reset assigne to the default "".
