Description Graham Perrin 2008-11-13 14:31:27 UTC
On Mac OS X:

* these alt-shift key combinations MUST NOT manipulate tables.

= Cross reference =

Issue 93749,

> word-wise: can not extend text selection, by word,
> using left or right arrow key

= Background =

1. Whilst making selections in a table, using alt+shift+arrow keys in the proper way, I noticed that the
table was changing — extremely annoying. I had to undo changes, repeatedly.

2. I then realised that this improper association is a likely explanation for the problems described in Issue 93749.
Comment 1 Graham Perrin 2008-11-13 14:36:48 UTC
Summary line of this bug affecting Mac OS X users of OOo 3 is broadened to the following set of key
combinations:

alt-shift-left
alt-shift-right
alt-shift-up
alt-shift-down

— the -up and -down actions, too, must be for extending selections (not for manipulation of tables).

SBA->MRU: As discussed, please proceed, thx.

The whole key assignment stuff for MacOS will be reworked by issue 92224.

Comment 5 Graham Perrin 2008-11-14 18:28:35 UTC
With greatest respect:
for as long as issue 4756 remains the subject of discussion/contention and possible closure, I should
quietly leave this issue 96184 open.

Really, on Mac OS X:

* the alt- key combinations MUST NOT behave in this way

* and (veering back to issue 4756) the user SHOULD NOT be forced to edit configuration files to achieve
a default that should be set out of the box.

A quiet period of maybe twenty-four hours or more may be helpful.

Peace,
Graham

At http://pastebin.ca/1256934 I see

mod2

but not in relation to left or right arrow keys.

Issue 96236

> OpenOffice.org Writer help refers to a keyboard handling area that is not found

And even in a more likely dialogue e.g. http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/58015/some%20table-
related%20options%20here%20but%20none%20relating%20to%20the%20options%20that%20I%20must%2
0correct.png I don't find the offending options :(

Comment 9 michael.ruess 2008-11-17 10:39:09 UTC
As I already mentioned, the Alt-key assignment problem for MacOS will be solved
in issue 92224.
So this issue here does not need to be kept open.

Closing duplicate issue. Please post any further comment into issue 92224, that
one will handle key assignment problems on Mac Platform.

OK, now it's clearer to me. Thanks for steering. I do agree, this is a duplicate.

The closure and re-opening of issue 4756 threw me off-track.
