Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 96646
Different background pictures get lost for slide masters
Last modified: 2011-03-30 14:42:15 UTC
There can't be two different background pictures for two slide masters. The other one is lost in either saving or loading the odp file. Reproducible as follows: 1. Create a new Impress presentation 2. Create two empty slides 3. Open View -> Master -> Slide Master 4. Create two masters and assign different background pictures to them (context menu -> Slide -> Set Background Picture for Slide). I used png format. 5. Close the Master View 6. Assign the first slide the first master, and the second slide the second master 7. Save, close and reopen (or Save and File->Reload) 8. Wow, now all the slides and master slides have the SAME background picture (the first one) although I assigned then the different ones!
Simply inserting a picture on the masterpage works. The key is "context menu -> Slide -> Set Background Picture for Slide" : this makes the background get lost after saving. Reassigned. In 2.4 the backgrounds get lost completely.
This appears to still be an issue in 3.1.1 (Build: 9420). It's highly unintuitive and frustrating when everything looks fine and then you close and re-open it later and your backgrounds are all messed up. The only workaround I was able to come up with was, for each master where I wanted a background image, to insert an image from file, resize the image to fill the entire slide, and then send it to the back z-index with Ctrl-- (minus). It took a while to convert all my masters, but at least this method works! (The workarounds described in http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=27162 didn't seem to work. Perhaps this bug is a regression that happened after that forum post?)

I can confirm this bug is still present in version 3.2.0, as distributed by Ubuntu 10.04. Only one slide background is saved with the presentation, the others are lost. The work around is confirmed as well: 1. create a square shape on a slide in Normal view 2. right-click it, select Fill -> Bitmaps tab -> Import... 3. import your background for title and content slides 4. delete the square shape again. 5. Go to the master view, right click the background of your title slide 6. Select Slide -> Page Setup -> Background -> Fill -> Bitmap 7. Select at the bottom of the list the background of your title slide 8. Repeat the same for your 'content' master slide 9. save and re-open the document -> the backgrounds of your slides are still correct.
@cl: Please have a look.
cl->wg: I can not reproduce this issue in dev300m102. As there was some work done in this area it is very likely that this has been fixed as a side effect. Please verify.
Fixed in the meantime. Fine.Works in DEV300_m104.
