Description Regina Henschel 2008-12-11 19:33:24 UTC
I used to set the main grid to 0,5cm with 4 sub points and grid color black.
This gives a nice grid which remembers to the ruling on paper. In OOoDEV300 m37
I get a large dot at the main grid crossing. That makes the grid very dominant
and uneven and it is unpleasant while drawing. Please turn it back to the OOo3.0
display.

AW: This is an enchancement which was introduced with the drawing primitives.
The idea was that the main grid points are too hard to distinguish from the
non-main grid points, especially with high resolutions (more and more used) and
the gray used by default. Since it was only a small change, it was loosely
discussed with UserExperience (like .e.g that the text of an object now casts a
shadow when shaodow is on). It's more like it should always have been, and
reactions up to now are positive.

Since the main grid points are now better visible, it is possible to define
grids with bigger spaces and (in Your example) no longer needed to set the grid
color to black. I guess, You did that to be able to better see the grid
points...? Exactly this was the reason for the change.

I hope You try to go back to gray or make a bigger main grid space and use the
enchanced visualisation. An option in the configuration could be added to change
this to old behaviour, but this would need re-implementation of the old stuff
and more people not liking the new visualisation (You are the first one).

In fact I am very glad that the grid design has changed. We had quite some
people complaining about the older grid being not really visible since the dots
were too small. Now one can easily tell if there is a main gridpoint or a
subdivision point. Setting the gridcolor to a 10 % grey is the best for me. Hope
that you can get used to it.

No, I'm not comfortable with the new grid. Working in gray makes the sub points
nearly invisible and it is less sharp; working in black gives the too dominant
main grid. See the attached comparison. So, please give back the old grid.

If people complain that the main grid is not visible, why do you not set it to
black as I have done?
Who complains about the grid? Those who design Impress slides, or those who
create drawings in Draw?
And no, it is not a "small change" to modify the working area in such a way.

Sorry that you do not like it. I do not know about other peoples intention not
to set the grid to black. But I know that I like the current solution more then
the older one so this is more a question of taste I believe. I have heard people
complaining about the old grid from both user fractions, Draw and Impress. I
myself work the complete day using draw and impress and I like the new solution.
Sine this works as designed I can only set this to enhancement since it is not a
defect.

Reassigned.

AW: I have shown Your example to some peope around here, and most were choosing
the bottom-right one as the best visualisation (without having read this task),
which is the new default. Maybe some more people should do this as a test.
