Description pdicocco 2008-12-22 12:03:45 UTC
I am using the Italian version of the program (will try shortly the english
version to see if it does it too but I doubt that nationalization can cause it).

I have added the following toolbars at the top of the screen: Drawing, Zoom,
Text formatting, Alignment (of objects).

When I enter a box of text the Drawing toolbar is removed and the Text
formatting one is shown, when I click on the screen and finish editing the text
the Text formatting toolbar disappears moving the other toolbars around.
Same thing appens when I draw a line, the drawing toolbar is shown just to be
removed after I click out of the drawn object.
It seems that these two toolbars are "moving items" that will do what they want.
I cannot think of it as being a way to save screen real estate since the screen
used is always the same.
This is a really really anoying behaviour that cannot be removed even after
locking the toolbars.
Also the toolbars need to be locked one by one which is a pain: ever heard of
locking the all at once when you find the right combination of them?

Same thing happens in "Drawing" program so it is a common bug (don't even try to
call it a feature!).

Regards

Windows 2003 is what? XP? Can you attach a screenshot of your ready added
toolbars ? Thanks.

Thanks for the hint, I have adapted the summary. Reassigned.
@af: the Text formatting toolbar disappears after taking away the focus from a
textobject, even if the text formatting was made visible explicitly before using
View/Toolbars.

@pdicocco:

Well, this IS a feature. You have mentioned one reason above: it saves screen
real estate. One tool bar replaces the other. Without it the tool bar space
would change every time the selection changes.

However, I can see your point, and this (old) behavior can certainly be improved.
The toolbar for the current action (text, image or regular shape editing) has to
be displayed, but it does not necessarily has to replace another tool bar.
Especially not if that tool bar has been made visible via the View->Toolbars menu.

Therefore I flag this issue as feature request.

It happens also in the Linux version 2.4 so the bug is already longtime in the program. Only under certain situations it appears and stays consistent.
I presume it has something todo with permissions but I do not know wich file is concerned.
Can anybody point me to the file it uses to store the toolbar configuration ?

Well, I tried to reproduce this bug, drawing toolbar never disappeared but when you insert a text box, Align toolbar disappear and Format toolbar appear when text box object is active. I don't know if it's a bug or just a feature.

I used OOo-dev 3.4 and OOo 3.3 running on Windows 7 32 bits
