Description mherring 2002-12-04 14:02:09 UTC
When inserting certain kinds of objects (e.g. OLE), there is no cropping
capability. For example, choose insert OLE-->new OOo draw object. This cannot
be cropped after insertion.
Comment 1 h.ilter 2002-12-06 13:04:30 UTC
Reassigned to MRU
Comment 2 michael.ruess 2002-12-06 13:21:54 UTC
Until now, it was never planned to have cropping of OLe Objects... but
it would also be a good feature regarding Interoperablablabla... ;-)
Comment 3 falko.tesch 2003-01-24 14:08:07 UTC
Hi Andreas, I do not think that cropping OLE objects is a no.1 feature
to implement for compatibility reasons. But we should keep it on our
to-do list for filters.
retargeted to OO 2.0 and set to feature.
Comment 4 andreas.martens 2003-01-31 14:39:44 UTC
Hi Mathias,
if it's possible to crop OLE objecte, this will be a feature request
for you, isn't it?
Comment 5 Mathias_Bauer 2004-02-06 08:46:49 UTC
Still needs investigation, but currently I don't preclude that this will be
possible in OOo2.0
Comment 6 rjahn1 2004-02-11 22:52:54 UTC
There might be some under-estimate of the importance of the cropping of OLE
objects in previous comments. Word processor's main role is to package info.
from all sources for business competitiveness. Professionals exploit advanced
tools, often via OLE, in hope for a better competitive position. The majority
of inserted OLE objects need scaling to make them pleasantly legible. Imagine
the impact when the inserted OLE objects cannot be trimmed for quality
impression in the marketing brochure, or any other business document. Guess
which word processor the boss will instruct to use to achieve business target,
if only one word processor is to be selected as company norm?
Comment 7 mikhail.voytenko 2004-04-23 14:03:06 UTC
Looks like indeed it will not come to OOo2.0. So for now I set it to OOo Later.
Comment 8 madbop 2006-03-18 17:02:05 UTC
Any ideas on when later will be? (about four years have passed now)
Is there no way to reuse the cropping code from bitmaps?
Comment 9 robbk 2009-02-19 13:27:45 UTC
We have many Word documents with embedded MS Visio objects. In Word the Visio
objects are edited directly in the Word document without opening a new window.
Therefore one can crop by simply grabbing the edges and corners of the object's
frame. Very useful and very much missed since Writer opens the Visio object in a
new window. I would add the ms_interoperability keyword.
Comment 10 robbk 2009-06-08 15:42:31 UTC
Tested in OOo 3.1. Feature not yet implemented.
When I double-click an embedded MSVisio object in Writer, OpenOffice.org 3.1
displays the error "General error". The error only allows "OK" as a reply.
Please add the keyword ms_interoperability.
This issue is the only reason we still have MSWord installed on one of our 100
workplaces. Everybody else has been using Writer for years.

Could this be a duplicate of Issue 20042?
