Description Andrea Pescetti 2009-01-19 20:52:13 UTC
The Italian version of OOo 3.0.1-RC2 (with JRE) is uninstallable under Windows
Vista and possibly other Windows systems.

1. Clean the system: uninstall previous OOo and JRE versions, remove the
temporary folder containing the OOo installation files from the Desktop.
2. Download OOo_3.0.1rc2_20090116_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_it.exe from an
extended mirror and check its md5sum against
3. Perform a default installation (accept settings and click Next every time).

During the JRE installation, a fatal error is reported:
"Impossibile accedere al percorso di rete 0"
and you have to CANCEL the installation in order to proceed. Eventually OOo
does get installed (!), but JRE is not present.

This is a stopper for OOo 3.0.1 Italian. This build/bundle is rejected.

[note: due to IZ limitations, version is set to OOO300m9; should be OOO300m15]
Comment 1 andreschnabel 2009-01-19 21:35:42 UTC
same for German version.

During setup (actually during JRE installation) an error "Cannot access network
location 0." is displayed. JRE installation needs to be cancelled, OOo
installation will continue.

Seems only to happen, if no JRE is installed before.
Comment 2 wope 2009-01-19 21:58:02 UTC
it happens also, when JRE was installed
Comment 3 Olaf Felka 2009-01-19 22:11:32 UTC
@ is: Please have a look. It's not Vista only. Xp makes the same crap.

Hmm, the Windows Installer parameter "/qb" for silent installation with basic
GUI causes this problem. Using "/qn" with no GUI seems to work. But in this case
there is no progress bar during Java installation, so that is appears, as if the
OOo installation has stopped.
Comment 7 2009-01-20 10:37:56 UTC
Ah, "/qr" with the reduced GUI works fine. Typically this installation type has
the problem, that the dialog at the end of the installation appears and has to
be accepted, but in my tests this dialog does not appear. So I suggest to
switch from "/qb" to "/qr" (further tests required).
Comment 8 tora3 2009-01-20 12:11:43 UTC
This phenomenon "Cannot access network location 0" seems to come from

OOo 3.0.1rc2 seems to come with Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 11,
while the issue above says "Release Fixed 6u12(b02)," though.

As of today, offers 6u11,
same as that of 3.0.1rc2.
Comment 9 tora3 2009-01-20 12:27:05 UTC
Just Information.

Sited from the bug_id=6764967:
Release Regression From : 6u7
The above release value was the last known release where this
bug was not reproducible. Since then there has been a regression.

The 6u7 is the one embedded in the OOo 3.0.0 wJRE.
Comment 10 2009-01-20 12:31:33 UTC
Thank you Tora, task 6764967 describes exactly our problem. So we have the choice:
A. Switching back to jre 6 u7 and using "/qb".
B. Using jre 6u11 and using "/qr". My tests showed, that using "/qr" the
advertisement for OOo is displayed during jre installation. This would be a
changed behavior, but I think it is not unusual to display OOo advertisement
during the installation process.
Comment 11 Olaf Felka 2009-01-20 12:44:08 UTC
But it doesn't look very professional to advertise OOo when installing OOo.
Someone should decide what is best practice or what's the lesser evil here.
@ mh: Will you do so?

matuaki-san [3] gave us a good summary:

When Java 6 Update 11 is installed ... OK
When Java 6 Update 10 is installed ... NG
When no java 's been installed ...NG

There are three reporting wrt this issue in Japanese QA list. [3]
Comment 13 jbf.faure 2009-01-21 04:47:40 UTC
Same problem in FR version.

Comment 14 fjrial 2009-01-21 09:25:49 UTC
Same problem in GL version too

Comment 15 Olaf Felka 2009-01-21 09:38:02 UTC
FYI: This issue is true for all OOo languages and caused by a bug in Java! You
don't have to confirm this for every OOo language!
Comment 16 Martin Hollmichel 2009-01-21 10:43:51 UTC
it looks like we need to touch the source code for a fix. changed source will
only touch with windows _wjre install set. so we will provide new source tarball
plus windows _wjre install sets only.
