Description kenpardue 2009-01-21 17:15:10 UTC
The new format in iWork '09 has been changed to be a flat file rather than a bundle. This should make
working with the files much easier in OpenOffice.org across all platforms. OpenOffice.org needs
.pages, .keynote, and .numbers import/export functionality.

Details on the format may be found here (although this may be detailing the format prior to the switch
to flat-file): http://developer.apple.com/documentation/appleapplications/Conceptual/iWork2-
0_XML/Chapter01/chapter_1_section_1.html

And an analysis comparing iWork's format to OpenDocument as well as OOXML may be found here: http://ctrambler.wordpress.com/2007/08/21/iworks-xml-format-vs-odf-vs-ooxml-preliminary-
thoughts/

Should this be split out across six bug reports?

iWork XML Numbers Import -> Calc
iWork XML Pages Import -> Writer
iWork XML Keynote Import -> Impress
iWork XML Numbers Export -> Calc
iWork XML Pages Export -> Writer
iWork XML Keynote Export -> Impress

With the version Keynote, Pages, and Numbers being only $10USD each on ipad, a
lot more people are going to experiment with iWork on their new shiny iPads.

Also, unlike iWork on the Mac, the iPad version of iWork only exports in iWork
and PDF formats. So there is no easy way to get an iPad created iWork file into
OpenOffice.

The ability to import/export iWork formats into Open Office would be really useful.
