Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 98526
No text on Outline view after saving a .ppt file as .ppt from OO Impress
Last modified: 2021-02-23 10:24:58 UTC
I'm using Impress to edit PowerPoint files originally created and saved in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003. I can open the .ppt file fine with Impress and can see the text on the Outline tab/view fine. Once I save the file in Impress as .ppt and then reopen the file with PowerPoint or with Impress there isn't any text in the Outline view. This happens regardless of whether I edited the original .ppt file or not. I will attach an examples. If I save the original .ppt file as an ODF presentation (.odp) and then reopen, the text is still visible in the Outline view. Another thing to note (is this expected behavior): 1. I save the .ppt using "File -> Save", I receive the "some formatting may be lost" dialog box. 2. Without editing the file at this point, when I close the file I'm prompted with the following message "The document 'doc_name.ppt' has been modified. Do you want to save your changes?"
Created attachment 59702 [details] This is one of the source .ppt files that I am opening with OO Impress that has text in Outline view
Created attachment 59703 [details] This is the .ppt file after saving as PowerPoint 97/2000/XP from Impress
To duplicate: 1. open slide Forever.ppt with Impress 2. select File -> Save As and rename to "Forever - test" with file type of Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP (.ppt) 3. when prompted that some formatting may be lost, select the "Keep Current Format" button 4. close the document 5. reopen the file saved in step 2 6. select Outline view and note that the text is missing.
Reproducible. Reassigned.
