Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 98560
Cannot get to Mac print dialog when no printer installed
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:59 UTC
Mac applications should allow the print dialog to be displayed when no printer is installed so that applications can print to PDF. If no printer is installed OOo 3.0 on Mac will display an error dialog saying no printer is installed and then show a different print dialog. Printing to PDF through the standard Mac print dialog can produce better results than the PDF export feature.
I can confirm this. I just tested iWork and other applications and they display Mac OS X print dialog without selected printer. Next thing is, that even if you don't have printer installed, printer dialog checks for printers around upon startup (via Bonjour) and offers you these printers too. If not found, you can still print to PDF.
It's not probably DEFECT, but ENHANCEMENT.
