Description avlass 2009-02-11 12:22:40 UTC
OOo 3.0.1 for Linux, still does not change the spell checking language according
to the input language (as is the case of OOo 3 for Windows).

This issue is exactly the same as issue 67134
(http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=67134) which was closed as a
duplicate of issue 1035 (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=1035).

Issue 1035 is indeed fixed for Windows (this particular issue is about Windows
OS), but not for other OSs (issue 67134 is for all OSs).

My interest is Linux in particular, as this really stops me from adopting Linux
as the OS of choice for my everyday work and thus use uniquely open source
software (that's the idea behind OpenOffice and that's its great contribution,
isn't it? ;-)

SBA->OS: Please comment, thx.

In Windows the input language is known. Other OS's don't provide such information.
pl will be able to give more information if necessary.

I see the problem.
Any idea who could fix that in Linux?

I'm sure if someone asks, it will be fixed.

Confirming for both Linux and MacOS.

As I read issue 1035, I think this is a problem for the x.org guys.

Can someone with knowledge about these things confirm this please (I am
certainly not a technical person, just a pretty good user).

What exactly should I ask the x.org team to do?

I am willing to contact teams and people who are needed to solve this, if only
someone tells me what I should ask for.

There should be a system API that informs applications which input locale is
currently active and notifies them about changes.

Changing Issue type to "Enhancement". Adjusting summary to point out that in
this one, Linux is affected (issue 1035 solved this for Windows only).
Put CMC and myself on c/c, reassigned to requirements.

I agree that this issue can be pretty frustrating, even when writing mainly on a
foreign language, because so many English words have found their way to our
everyday life.

I hope a way is found so that linux can report the language being used to OO. If
micro$oft does it, linux can do it 50 times better.

You may want to check bug 100762 before implementing this "feature" about how much people are complaining *against* it.
