The "selection" list inside the cross-referencing dialog is not
lexicographically sorted, but by plain string comparison.

Additionally, it would be helpful for larger amounts of cross-references, to
have more information available in this list, e.g. page numbers, or the first
few words of the description text (or maybe even a preview image. hah, just
dreaming ;))
