A "todo"/task icon should show on the left margin when the line contains a task.
Likewise, a blue notch should show up on the right margin to mark these tasks.

Have look at the "show todos"-plugin.

"Editor TODO Highlighting" plugin does something like this, but not in quite as useful of a way as is requested here. I'd like to see this enhancement implemented.
