Description lms2 2010-05-21 04:13:02 UTC
Calc tool tips are more a hindrance to rapid, efficient use than not having tips...all tip boxes are OFF(unchecked) in Options/General yet this crap is always in the way; every formula you try to enter, this garbage shows up over the formula bar, slowing down entry while you try to get it out of the way. Searches indicate this has been an unresolved problem. This is ridiculous and may cause me to abandon OO, having been a user for the last 10 year +/-. This is a major problem and must be resolved ASAP. It makes OpenOffice.org appear very unprofessional, and it is even unusable at times (one has to guess what text they are typing in without being about to see it). Note I experienced this bug using OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 (OOO310m19, Build:9420) [openoffice.org-3.1.1-19.5.el5_5.6]

Note this bug occurs (most often) when moving the cursor (eg using the left, right, up and down arrow keyboard buttons) through a formula which has been displayed on multiple lines (because it has been constrained by available window space in some manner). NB this bug refers to formulas displayed inline (on a cell when editing that cell), and not in the formula bar.

We had issue 105472, dependent on the position of the mouse pointer, fixed in version 3.3. This sounds like a duplicate. There's also issue 98177 about switching to a different application.

Tool tips should be eliminated. Formula syntax can be displayed at status bar or sidebar.
