Description skiani 2012-07-07 15:58:29 UTC
There is apparantly a nasty bug in how LO and AOO pre 3.5 interparates the ODF spec for svg graphics. This has been resolved in LO 3.5.3+ and will cause incompatiblity between LO and AOO:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47406

Files saved in LO 3.5.3+ will not open correctly in AOO.

And using the same fix to interoperate with LO 3.5.3+ will break interoperability with all previous releases of Apache OpenOffice, Oracle/Sun OpenOffice.org, and LibreOffice.

The claim in LO bug 47406 is that, at least in part, the ODF specification is implemented incorrectly, and it has been done so in all OpenOffice-lineage implementations until LibreOffice 3.5.3.

Since this is related to ODF provisions borrowed from SVG, it gets even more interesting.

It would be (have been) great to work this out as a community interoperability issue. Simply changing the behavior with no way of recognizing documents that depend on either behavior (no matter which is considered correct) is not helpful.
