Never had this problem before - I upgraded this week from OO 3.xx

This is only one of several .odt files I tried - all with the same result. Thanks for your help!
Comment 3 Edwin Sharp 2013-08-01 17:05:50 UTC
Export as PDF OK in Rev. 1503704 Win 7.

Have you modified the default settings at File - Export as PDF... ?

Yes, I set JPEG compression at 85%, image resolution 150 DPI
Comment 5 Edwin Sharp 2013-08-01 18:30:02 UTC
Export still OK with these settings.

Good of you to check. The original files arrive as MS .doc and I save as .odt - could that make any difference? I've gone back to OO 3.4.1 for now as I need this all the time ...
Comment 7 Edwin Sharp 2013-08-01 18:55:47 UTC
If DOC exported OK, then yes.
Have you tried 4.0 with PrimoPDF or PDFCreator?

Never felt the need before but thanks for the suggestions! Will look into them ...
Comment 9 hdu@apache.org 2013-08-05 09:53:37 UTC
I can reproduce this problem if the "Embed this document inside the PDF" option is enabled, but not when it is disabled. The option is available in the "File -> ExportAsPDF" menu.

Interesting ... ! Unfortunately I didn't instruct anything to be embedded, however.

Please try the "File -> ExportAsPDF" menu item and verify the checkbox next to "Embed this document inside the PDF". Does it crash regardless on whether it is enabled or disabled?

Yes, sadly it still crashes whether embedding is enabled or not. I've just tried another PC with exactly the same result. This one is Win 7, 32-bit instead of 64-bit, if that makes any difference. Immensely grateful for your persistence ...
Comment 13 Oliver-Rainer Wittmann 2013-08-12 08:24:18 UTC
I can not reproduce the crash when exporting the given document to PDF on my Windows 7.

But there is a crash in the export to PDF when the export is triggered from the 'page preview' - see bug 122868

@joanstonham:
Do you reproduced the crash in standard view or the in page preview or in both?

No, I've never tried export from page preview - I always use the standard page view. Thanks for persevering ...

do you have PDF/A-1a enabled?
this could be a duplicate of bug 123409

attachment 81231 [details] has image in background

does it crash with files which don't have the draft image in background?

(1) No, I never have PDF/A-1a enabled.

(2) Save to PDF works perfectly with 'draft' removed - I'm glad you've located the problem :-)

(3) However, the 'draft' is not a background but a pasted overlay (the document comes to me like this) so I'll need to find another way to recreate the effect ...
Comment 17 Ariel Constenla-Haile 2013-10-09 19:29:21 UTC
Confirmed on Windows 7, 64 bits.
Unrelated to hybrid PDF ("Embed this document inside the PDF").

New user profile, settings not imported from previous versions.
- Export with default settings: no crash
- Export selecting PDF/A-1a: crash
- Export unchecking PDF/A-1a but checking "Tagged PDF": crash

@joanstonham: please export to PDF using the PDF Dialog (menu "File" - "Export as PDF..."). Is "Tagged PDF" checked when exporting crashes? Unchecking this option is likely to workaround the crash.

If you check "PDF/A-1a", "Tagged PDF" will also be checked.

Stack trace is the same as in attachment 81737 [details] for Bug 123452

Still reproducible with "AOO 4.1.0-Dev – English UI / German locale - [AOO410m1(Build:9750) - Rev. 1525917 - 2013-09-25]" on German WIN7 Home
Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile, because of incomplete LCo selector (Bug 123063) no correct information can be left.
Comment 20 hdu@apache.org 2013-10-10 07:27:27 UTC
Same root cause as bug 123409: an invalid iterator was dereferenced.

I'm sorry to report that "Export as PDF..." still crashes with "PDF/A-1a" checked - whether I uncheck "Tagged PDF" first or not.

I am still working with 4.0.0

If you check "PDF/A-1a", it will crash (because this option also checkes "Tagged PDF").
In order to avoid the crash:
a) make sure "PDF/A-1a" is NOT checked
b) make sure "Tagged PDF" is NOT checked

Got there at last - this works :-) Thanks so much for sorting me out. I'm amazed and grateful for all the work that goes into OpenOffice. JS
