If other programs are stupid AOO should also be? /Loc/ale settings are (first of all currencies) defined for a /Loc/ation (state/country) and not for any language. If one have to select a location then he should select a location and not a language. No more and no less. (a) Advantage of suggested proceeding is that that sort order simply is more plausible related to influence of that setting (b) Disadvantage might be that the known Language related sort order is used at several places and users might complain that the inconsequent, but known sort order is more handy that the consequent one. (c) I wonder whether the list has relation to (c1) International code tables (c2) ODF (d) May be such a new Localizations list can be shorter? only 1x Switzerland, 1x Norway, ... ? I am not sure where the settings of menu 'Tools Options -> Language Settings -> Language settings - Locale' has impact. Ordinal numbers will be different for Switherland (German) and Switzerland (French) I prefer to follow the request Comparison with competitors _might_ be interesting, but I agree with mroe that that is a very secondary argument. I did not find something equivalent in SoftMaker FreeOffice, KingSoft, Calligra. I think this one is more UI related (In reply to mroe from comment #2) > Don't know. Why should it? Unfortunately, we live in a world where sometimes stupid is more successful than the deserved. This might confuse users. |
