The envelope is only a page style with some pre-positioned text frames
(sender and address). To "remove" it, choose another page style while
having the cursor on that page. Then you may delete the text frames
and the page break that got inserted (look for the thin blue line on
top of a page - the page break is in the first paragraph of that page).

I think this is still a valid Enhancement request.

I think the problem I am having with this task is that the integration
of Envelopes with Documents is half-finished. The first part,
inserting or changing the Envelope, has been implemented quite
impressively; it is gratifyingly easy to create an Envelope or change
its layout for a new printer. I don't have to know that in the
background, OpenOffice is creating a new page layout, adding a new
page, and putting custom fields on. All that is done for me, even on
an update.

I would assert that removing an Envelope should be just as transparent
to the user. I should not have to know the details of how an Envelope
works in order to be able to remove it. In particular, your workaround
below would stop working if the OpenOffice developers chose to
implement Envelopes as something new: an embedded sub-Document? a
built-in macro or type? Then, you would have to explain all over again
(in the Documentation? a FAQ?) how to get rid of an Envelope.

Please make removing an Envelope as easy as it is to create or change it.

request that the current method for removing an envelope be documented
in help.

This is a request from issue #9660.  Is this OK?

I like the FAQ and think it's a good stopgap until the functionality
requested in this RFE is complete. I'm especially happy that it
mentions that work is ongoing to make this an intuitive operation.

In the meantime, until that work is complete, I think this issue
should remain open. Thanks!

P2 - Marks severe problems which affect a significant number of customers.
Issues with this priority must be fixed before the target release ... and should
be dealt with as soon as possible. Not fixing them for the target release is not
acceptable.

This is still a problem:

1. The URL http://documentation.openoffice.org/user_faq/word_processing/039.html
does not work.
2. The in-program help does not explain this (v2.3). I do understand the help is
slated for v2.4.
3. In any case, if someone creates a document, adds an envelope, then changes
their mind and wants the envelope (or envelopes) separate, removing the envelope
from the first document is painful and un-intuitive at best.

If the process for removing an envelope from a document is deterministic then
it's not clear why the "Insert > Envelope" path can't add a "Remove" button if
an envelope already exists on the document.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
