I can confirm the wrong import with OOo1.9.113 on WinXP and Word97. There are two problems with the attached document. (1) There are slight differences in the metric. So the line "www.lancs.ac.uk/users/equalopp/harnet.htm" doesn't fit in the column. If you uncheck "use printermetrics for document formatting" or set the font size to 10.5pt it will fit. (2) The column break has got an additional paragraph. To reproduce this: In Word97 make a new document with two columns. Fill it with continues text without paragraph endings. Set the cursor behind the last character in the last line of the first column. Insert a column break. Save the document. Now open the document in OOo. See that there is an additional empty paragraph. *** Issue 52071 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. *** MRU->FME: there are two things which affect the strange behaviour and why we perhaps should split this task in two issues: 1. (seen on Windows) there will fit more text in the first column of page 2 when opened in Word. This can be seen best when disabling "Widow/Orphan" contol for pafragraph "This Information..." in Writer. It seems, that OO Writer mis-interprets the metrics of Arial-font here. 2. The paragraph containing the column break is interporeted differently in Word and Writer. In Ms Word, such a paragraph is handled with size (height) 0 when it has no content. Writer handles it with full font height. Made summary more significant. FME->MRU: Yes, we should split this into two issues. I'll keep this one for the first issue: Writer currently has a special handling for line break calculation with italic fonts. We need a compatibility options for this. Please set up a second task for the paragraph break problem and send it to flr. Created attachment 28071 [details]
