Ken, please reassign to the appropriate person, thanks.

The "instance" is how we refer to a specific SJSAS domain in the Help.

ie, you could have a remote server domain "instance", but you would need a local
instance also for compilation. So each domain is referred to as an instance of
the App Server.

I agree that instance can cause some confusion.
Currently, the dialog is title "Add Server Instance".

Why is link only on Register SJSAS?
That topic includes instance because "instance" is in the title of the wizard.
[i.e. the CSH topics for SJSAS, JBoss and Tomcat all include "instance" in the
topic title]. So there is an inconsistency. It probably should be in all or none
of the topics. If instance in the title is confusing it can be removed from the
relevant help topics.

In which case, we should also probably remove "instance" from the wizard title.

What about the first question... that is what prompted the bug report.

also, the link text (not the text at the end of the link...) is not consistent...

Don't ALL the 'Register a ....' register a Server Instance, not just a Server?
Comment 6 Kenneth Ganfield 2007-05-23 17:55:42 UTC
So I am not sure i understand, but...

What is a 'Java System Application Server Instance'?

An "instance" is a domain. Registering a server instance = registering a server
+ a domain.
When I register the default domain1 I register one instance
If I want to create a new domain and register that, or register a remote domain,
so I am registering another instance.

The help topic could also be written as Registering a Java System Application
Server (without the "Instance")

so..
Don't ALL the 'Register a ....' register a Server Instance, not just a Server?
Yes, they all register a server instance.

I would suggest we make the links consistent by removing the "instance" from the
link for Registering the SJSAS topic (so not explicitly mentioning the
"instance" in the topic title)

Do you have a specific recommendation?
Do you think we need to explicitly mention "instance" in the topic titles?
Comment 7 Vince Kraemer 2007-05-23 17:59:50 UTC
Sorry I wasn't a bit more direct...

I have never heard of a 'Java System Application Server'

Is there a company called 'Java System' that I am unfamiliar with?
Comment 8 Kenneth Ganfield 2007-05-23 18:24:24 UTC
ah, I see a missing "Sun".

Is there something else that I am not seeing?
