I choose Add Server, and fill out the add server instance form. I choose a glassfish v2 server. On the next page I choose "Register remote domain" On the next page I enter the DNS name of my server, which is 29 characters long I click next and get no error. I enter my username/password and click finish. I get a message saying "unknown host" "host name ........(27 characters long, missing the last 2 characters entered above) not valid. Please retry" If I enter the short dns name(I'm in the same domain) or the IP address, everything works fine. Looks like there's a maximum length for hostname that's clipping anything over the limit.
I just did some testing on Solaris 10 with some scary long names... but haven't been able to reproduce this issue. I will try it one of my macs tonight.
I have tried to replicate this with the following two addresses on my mac this evening (finally!) 178.Red-80-33-1.staticIP.rima-tde.net and ec2-67-202-41-81.compute-1.amazonaws.com Bothe of these are "valid" names... but I doubt that they have appservers running on them.... Both servers were able to register successfully. I am going to close this as worksforme... If you still see this issue, please reopen the issue with more details... If you do not want to include the name of the host in an issue... please send it to me directly.
