Description jascherpelz 2008-01-16 21:45:57 UTC
I choose Add Server, and fill out the add server instance form.

I choose a glassfish v2 server.

On the next page I choose "Register remote domain"

On the next page I enter the DNS name of my server, which is 29 characters long

I click next and get no error.

I enter my username/password and click finish.

I get a message saying "unknown host" "host name ........(27 characters long, missing the last 2 characters entered
above) not valid. Please retry"

If I enter the short dns name(I'm in the same domain) or the IP address, everything works fine.

Looks like there's a maximum length for hostname that's clipping anything over the limit.

I just did some testing on Solaris 10 with some scary long names... but haven't been able to reproduce this issue.

I will try it one of my macs tonight.

I have tried to replicate this with the following two addresses on my mac this evening (finally!)

178.Red-80-33-1.staticIP.rima-tde.net and ec2-67-202-41-81.compute-1.amazonaws.com

Bothe of these are "valid" names... but I doubt that they have appservers running on them....

Both servers were able to register successfully.

I am going to close this as worksforme...
