I've twice failed to install sunstudio on sparc machine but with different logs:
 
bash-3.00$ uname -a
SunOS spb-nero 5.10 Generic_120011-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V445

1.
bash-3.00$ pwd
/tmp/aa157712
bash-3.00$ ./sunstudio-sparc-S2.sh
Please wait while Sun Studio is unpacked into this directory.
tar: SUNWspro/prod/lib/sparcfmaf/libsunperf.so.8: HELP - extract write error
Sun Studio was successfully installed.
/tmp/aa157712/./servicetag/swordfish.data not found.

in this case Netbeans were not installed at all

bash-3.00$ ./sunstudio-sparc-S2.sh
Please wait while Sun Studio is unpacked into this directory.
tar: netbeans-6.1/cnd2/modules/org-netbeans-modules-cnd-makeproject.jar: HELP - extract write error
Sun Studio was successfully installed.
/tmp/aa157712/0605/./servicetag/swordfish.data not found.

in this case netbeans were partially installed.

As I can see this is a tar problem, but the installer message "...servicetag/swordfish.data not found" should be hidden

And "Sun Studio was successfully installed." message should be replaced with "SunStudio installation failed"

The problem is related with tar.
