When I chat with a user of kenai the username is the only identification that appears in chat. It would be helpful to be able to set the user's nick name. The action should probably be available in popup menu of a message line in the chat window. Maybe It needs more complex study of this problem => cc-ing olangr from x-design.
It may become more complex. The chat message history is stored locally or remotely? If locally, this could mean that the chat history could contain two or more names, all from one person. WOuld the nickname be only for chat? The same person would then be identified differently in issue tracking and differently in chat - again a possible source of confusion in team collaboration. Not sure if it is worth the effort, given that most Kenai teams working closely together and using chat will be rather small. No strong opinion, but slightly inclining towards wontfix.
We definitely don't want to have nick names in chat. We must have the same name for each user across different services on kenai: scm, bug tracking, chat. Maybe we can show real names (username) e.g.: "Jan Becicka (jbecicka)" But we must use it consistently across all kenai features. but please no nick names. This is not dating chat room.
we don't want to implement this.
