The profiler allows to export snapshots to .xml, .csv etc formats, but importing snapshots in those formats does not seem to be possible.
Right, the profiler allows exporting the data to various formats so you can process them further in other tools. If you want to save the data and open them later in the profiler then use the profiler native snapshot format ".nps". BTW I don't think the export/import features need to be symmetrical - a tool may provide export feature but doesn't need to provide import. Currently we don't have any plans to provide support for importing external snapshots.
Please make it then clear on the http://wiki.netbeans.org/FitnessViaPartnership page that users shouldn't bother attaching snapshots in formats other than .nps. Now I have a bunch of .xml snapshots in my hands.
You should contact the page owner to update the contents - jtulach? BTW when saving the snapshot the ".nps" format is the default choice, there's no need to change anything, just click the Save button. Do you have any information why the users decided to use the xml format?
Well I updated the page myself. I don't know why the users chose the .xml format, but it seems likely they assumed the profiler can import .xml snapshots (and I can't blame them for that).
Thanks. I'm thinking of separating "Save" functionality from "Export" which could improve the usability a bit. "Save" would save the snapshot to a ".nps" file which can be later loaded back, "Export" would transform the snapshot data into a common format for other tools. Not sure if it's doable for 6.8...
Yes, I think that would be better.
