The IDE can't get the update org-netbeans-modules-javafx-sdk-win.nbm

This looks like a timeout after approximately an hour. Connection is dial-up but stable. All attempts failed.

It would be nice to have a workaround. I can't complain - NetBEans people have always been extremely helpful.

Is there an alternatve method to download and install this file?
Comment 1 Jiri Kovalsky 2010-02-12 06:19:25 UTC
Yes, you can download this NBM file [1] manually as well.

[1] http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/6.8/uc/final/stable/patch1/javafx2/org-netbeans-modules-javafx-sdk-win.nbm

Michael, can you please test this? I am on Ubuntu not seeing this module. Thanks!
Comment 2 bht 2010-02-12 18:17:59 UTC
FireFox could download the file, although the download was not suspendable.
After failure due to suspension, the download could be re-started after the partial file was deleted.
Firefox recovered the partial download from the cache nevertheless. The installation of downloaded files was successful. Many thanks.

For some reason, the IDE wanted an additional file http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/6.8/uc/final/beta/modules/composer/org-netbeans-modules-javafx-composer-runtime-proxy.nbm

Which I also downloaded, but the IDE ignored the downloaded file, insisted on downloading it. No problem.

Michael, any update on this P1 bug?
Comment 4 Michael Nazarov 2010-02-16 11:24:16 UTC
Would you please provide steps how to reproduce this issue exactly?
And which type of NB installer you used?
Comment 5 bht 2010-02-16 11:56:35 UTC
To reproduce this one would need a fresh IDE installation. The computer must be on a dial-up internet connection. The update would be started via Menu|Tools|Plugins, in the Updates tab. There the size of the downloads is listed at the bottom depending on the option checked. The size was slightly under 50 MBytes in this case. Start the download in the background and keep it running. The IDE will download happily until timeout after approximately one hour.
Comment 6 Michael Nazarov 2010-02-16 12:04:18 UTC
Well, I don't think there is way to find dial-up connection here.
Would you please write here URL of update center this plugin comes from?
Comment 7 bht 2010-02-16 21:04:47 UTC
From what I read from the log file, this comes from:
http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/6.8/uc/final/stable/patch1/javafx2/org-netbeans-modules-javafx-sdk-win.nbm

Or do I misunderstand what the URL of the update center is?

The attached log file records the events that I have experienced. "Server closed connection unexpectedly"

"Content length was reported as 50537054 byte(s) but read 8255902 byte(s)"
"Content length was reported as 50537054 byte(s) but read 10862166 byte(s)"

I got this more often than that, the day before, but the log files are now gone.
Comment 8 Michael Nazarov 2010-02-16 23:33:03 UTC
I saw log file, thanks.
I meant URL showed by IDE. There is field named "Source" for plugin or update with name of UC. URL for this name is available at "Settings" page. Just to make sure we use same source for information not yet for update itself.
Comment 9 Michael Nazarov 2010-02-17 00:48:06 UTC
I successfully installed IDE and this update.
Comment 10 Jiri Kovalsky 2010-02-17 02:22:17 UTC
OK, since this concerns only very slow connections to Internet, I think we can safely downgrade it to P3. Honzo, can you possibly do something about the web server timeout settings? Thanks!
Comment 11 Jan Pirek 2010-02-17 02:31:09 UTC
Hi all,
I do not have direct access to UC server settings, but I will contact administrators and ask them about connection time out settings.

From what I know, server would not kill connection which was receiving data, I guess that due to slow dial-up line it maybe stopped receiving data for some time and server considered that connection dead and terminated that.

I will let you know what admins tell me.

I agree to decrease to p3 as this does not affect all users.

Thanks again for your help. Worked for me via external file download. The settings are as follows:

Menu|Tools|Plugins|Settings

NetBeans:
Last Check: 15/02/10 12:33 AM URL: http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/6.8/uc/final/stable/catalog.xml.gz

NetBeans Beta:
Last Check: 15/02/10 12:32 AM URL: http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/6.8/uc/final/beta/catalog.xml.gz

3rd party:
Last Check: 15/02/10 12:31 AM URL: http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/6.8/uc/final/thirdparty/catalog.xml.gz

Plugin Portal:
Last Check: 15/02/10 12:33 AM URL: http://plugins.netbeans.org/nbpluginportal/updates/6.8/catalog.xml.gz

A Mozilla file download is probably more fault tolerant than NetBeans.
