Description Jan Becicka 2010-03-05 00:54:14 UTC
"Kenai Dashboard" component was renamed to "Team" and there was a link "What is Kenai" pointing to

http://kenai.com/projects/help/forums/general/topics/378-What-is-Project-Kenai-

Now I renamed "What is Kenai" to "What is Team Server" and I'd like to ask someone to create wiki page on netbeans.org describing what is team server.

Thanks

I've never documented Kenai before. Assigning to Irina so that she can assign this task to the appropriate writer. Please correspond with her about this task.
Comment 2 Jan Becicka 2010-03-05 03:28:58 UTC
Thanks. Current what is kenai page is at
http://kenai.com/projects/help/pages/KenaiOverview

not the link above. sorry
Comment 3 Irina Filippova 2010-03-05 03:31:42 UTC
Jan, do you want a page, similar to http://kenai.com/projects/help/pages/KenaiOverview, to be created on nb.org?

Reassigning to usersguide and Ken. Changing from Defect to Enhancement.
Comment 4 Jan Becicka 2010-03-05 03:50:37 UTC
Definitely not that complex page.

First 2 paragraphs would be enough imo:
What is Team Server?
How do I get started?

Or maybe we should not create new page, but we can use existing
http://netbeans.org/features/ide/collaboration.html

But we probably need to change all "Kenais" to "Team Servers".
ccing Tomas.

I think there should be a special new page. It can be fairly short. It can link whatever additional info is relevant. At this moment it is also important for us to provide actual status about Kenai.com vs java.net (nothing from kenai.com will be lost, migration to java.net will hapeen, etc). I.e. in fact informing the user where they can find some working team server.

This page should be ready when 6.9 beta goes out.
Comment 6 Irina Filippova 2010-03-09 01:00:50 UTC
Again, assigning to Ken. Ken, can you please handle this issue?
Comment 7 Kenneth Ganfield 2010-03-09 04:19:16 UTC
I also think there should be a new page. I will change references to Kenai for beta
Comment 8 Kenneth Ganfield 2010-03-10 08:16:54 UTC
I would suggest that a page be created in /kb/docs/ide rather than a wiki page.

What is the current plan with respect to default registered team servers in the IDE?

Will java.net be listed by default as a Team Server instance in the Services window?
Comment 9 Jan Becicka 2010-03-10 08:30:22 UTC
jva.net will probably not migrate to Kenai infrastructure in NetBeans 6.9 timeframe. So I suppose java.net will not be the default server.
Comment 10 Irina Filippova 2010-03-12 06:58:06 UTC
If migration to java.net will happen later, what then will be the default team server in the IDE in the 6.9 time frame? Will Kenai stay as the default server? Should we expect more serious changes in the UI closer to the 6.9 release? Is the current plan to leave the Team menu as it is now? or any kind of a patch will produced?

It still depends on exact timing of NB release and beta.java.net availability. There's a good chance there will be no default server in NB 6.9 and a few weeks later we release a patch that brings in beta.java.net.

The UI is done, no changes planned. The only future changes are related to the default server the IDE knows. The page requested here will be linked from the IDE and give the users most current information about what server they can use.

The URL for the new page for Team Server details:

http://netbeans.org/kb/docs/ide/team-servers.html

The draft of this page is viewable on the staging server
