Description krantz 2010-05-12 21:11:13 UTC
I had netbeans in my computer: recently upgraded to a new version of OS (ubuntu lucid), netbeans was working fine.

I made a mistake and deleted the /etc/profile folder (dunno if that has anything to do with this).

But after that, I've tried 3 times to install netbeans again, with no luck. it just shows a blank screen.

Last time I installed, when I first ran netbeans, got this error:

"Warning - could not install some modules: Ergonomic IDE - The module named org.netbeans.modules.server/0-1 was needed and not found. Project UI API - None of the modules providing the capability org.netbeans.modules.project.uiapi.ActionsFactory could be installed. Project UI API - None of the modules providing the capability org.netbeans.modules.project.uiapi.OpenProjectsTrampoline could be installed. Project UI API - None of the modules providing the capability org.netbeans.modules.project.uiapi.ProjectChooserFactory could be installed. Core - UI - The module Explorer & Property Sheet API was requested in version >= 6.22.2 but only 6.22.1.1 was found. Common Scripting Language API (new) - The module named org.netbeans.spi.editor.hints/0-1 was needed and not found. Editor Code Templates - The module named org.netbeans.spi.editor.hints/0-1 was needed and not found. JavaScript Hints - The module named org.netbeans.spi.editor.hints/0-1 was needed and not found. 30 further modules could not be installed due to the above problems."

Any ideas

Are you installing NetBeans from packages (using "apt-get install ..." or some GUI package manager) or using installer downloaded from *.netbeans.org?
Does removal of ~/.netbeans/6.8 help?

Tried 3 different options:

1) apt-get
2) synaptic
3) downloaded the .sh from netbeans.org

same results.

I didn't try.

What I did is:

Open the blank netbeans screen (luckily the menus worked, slowly).

TOOLS -> PLUGINS -> Module Manager.

After that, I was able to bring Netbeans fully functional, downloading updates, applying them, activating modules, rechecking, downloading again....

It was a slow process, but it's working now -- the IDE still feels kinda slow, but works.

Thanks!
