Description coyote4til7 2011-03-10 17:12:59 UTC
Installation under OS X Snow Leopard with all updates fails

Machine is new. Previous Netbeans install migrated across w/Apple's built in migration tool. Old version displays many strange characters (boxes, etc) in console window when uploading/downloading/etc.

Trying to install 6.9.1 fails without details. Only suggested solutions I could locate on the web were:
* doing an uninstall with the uninstaller
** 6.9.1 installer appears to have done that by completely wiping out my old NetBeans install that as least sort of worked ... BAD installer
* installing as root
** bad security practice
* chmod'ing various things to root
** again, unacceptable security

Could you please clarify what exactly doesn't work for you. Is it native installer that you downloaded from netbeans.org or it is Plugins manager?

> * doing an uninstall with the uninstaller

Mac installation doesn't have an uninstaller. You should just NetBeans*.app to Trash.

> ** 6.9.1 installer appears to have done that by completely wiping out my old

You can create ENCHANCEMENT request for Mac native installer and make your suggestion there.

> * installing as root
> ** bad security practice

This is a common practice for Mac installations.

> * chmod'ing various things to root
> ** again, unacceptable security

Could you please, clarify.
