If you go to New Project > Samples and select a sample project, the titling convention of the wizard varies as below:

Java sample projects: Name of project. For example, click on Anagram Game and the New Anagram Game wizard opens.

JavaFX: As Java. Wizard name matches project name.

Java Web: New Sample Web Application (if J2EE 1.4), New Enterprise Sample Project (if EE6), or New Project (only for Lean Service ECB Component with Ajax)

Java Web Services: New Sample Web Application (Calculator, Secure Calculator) or New Project (All other samples)

Java EE: New Enterprise Sample Project

Maven: New Enterprise Sample Project (?!)

PHP: New PHP Sample Project

NetBeans Modules: New Project

I know it's not terribly important, but could we establish some consistency in these wizard names?

Sure, what you suggest?
As I understand we can choose either name of project or generic title. I took a look over the wizards for different project types (not samples) and there is always project name with one exception in Maven projects where is always 'New project' title.

IMHO project name is used in most cases so I would recommended to use it always.
What do you think?

I'd be happy with project name as the convention.

Report from old NetBeans version. Due to code changes since it was reported likely not reproducible now. Feel free to reopen if happens in 8.0.2 or 8.1.
