Description Jesse Glick 2002-07-16 13:26:59 UTC
The help set for tomcatint talks about adding a
new Tomcat 4.0 server installation. This is great,
but every day five new messages are posted to
nbusers asking if some other version of Tomcat can
be added, or how to do it etc. This is clearly a
major concern for a lot of users and it is bad
that the docs do not even mention it. At a minimum
they should say e.g.:

You can add a new Tomcat 4.0.x installation here.
Installing earlier versions of Tomcat (3.x) *will
not* work. Installing later versions of Tomcat
(4.1.x) *may not* work.

or whatever the dev team for the module says is
the truth about it. At least users would not have
to go to the mailing list to find out something so
simple.

Since all of the web apps stuff is being treated as an as-is
"contribution" to NB from the FFJ 4.0 release, nobody is currently
staffed to work on the docs.

However, I can release note this issue for the 3.4 release. Can
somebody from the web apps team provide me with the type of info that
Jesse suggests.
Comment 2 leslie-robertson 2002-07-16 16:58:33 UTC
I believe that this enhancement is warranted in the NB 3.4 timeframe,
so I will make time to fix it in the next few days. Is there anything
special that I need to do now that NB is in high resistance mode?
(Note that the Tomcat help is not part of the user's guide, so it
falls outside the high-resistance amnesty.) Please advise.
Comment 3 Jesse Glick 2002-07-16 19:00:13 UTC
The amnesty re. HTML-only documentation changes in high resistance
mode applies to any module helpset, not specifically usersguide.

You can look for more details if you want -

Set target milestone to TBD
Comment 6 leslie-robertson 2002-07-24 22:03:56 UTC
I have added text to the online help explaining that Tomcat 3.X
versions are not supported, and that version 4.0.4 is the fully tested
version. Other 4.x versions might work, but have not been fully
tested. Once tests per Ana's suggestions have been performed, I can
update the text to include a detailed list of supported versions and
integration modes (but not in the 3.4 timeframe).
Comment 7 Patrick Keegan 2002-08-08 19:15:41 UTC
Removing relnote keyword, since the info is now included in the online
help
Comment 8 Jason Rush 2003-03-04 03:13:34 UTC
Verified in NetBeans dev build 200303030100. Specifies in
several places that Tomcat 4.0 installations may be added,
but that Tomcat 3.x instances will not work.
