Some files are shown as folders 
this happens completely random (*.js or *.css might be others also)
at the same time searching through the project won't include these files so I guess it goes wrong on a deeper level.

"Source -> scan for external" 
changes what files are shown wrong. Some appear files appear as files again while others appear as folders.

restarting or reinstalling won't help 
this happens on a laptop and also on a virtual pc

the files are located on the IFS of an IBM I machine 
other editors and windows explorer are showing the files correctly 

two instances of netbeans on different machine show different results

this has been going on since two or three months

I really like netbeans. Being forced back to a different ide makes me appreciate all the features of netbeans even more.

just installed netbeans 8.1 
it has the same problems as 8.2

only things changed on these machines that might make sence  is the java version
