Description shemnon 2004-08-20 21:14:21 UTC
[ BUILD # : beta1 ]
[ JDK VERSION : J2SE 1.5.0 ]

It appears to me that the new Fix Imports command (only available in th e editor context menu) is the replacement for the old import management tool.

However, it has none of the user driven choices that the old 3.x version. All the tool does is match up inknown identifiers with import packages.

Missing functionality that I miss is
 * the ability to group imports by package or individually
 * the ability to specify that an identifier should be left in as a full calss name rather than an import
 * a list of removed import statements.

Because "synchronize" tends to bring in fully qualified class names I would often use the import management tool to shorten them and group the more prolific packages together.

Is this functionality just somewhere else and I am just missing it?

This functionality is currently not there and is planned for future
Comment 2 bass 2004-11-04 19:34:58 UTC
Martin, does "future releases" mean 4.0/4.1, or we'll see no
improvements since 4.0beta2/4.1ea1?
Comment 3 bass 2004-11-04 19:44:42 UTC
And one more question. Is it possible to introduce at least the
functionality of narrowing/widening/sorting import statements (like in
those proprietary IDEs like JBuilder & JDeveloper) -- in addition to
the (already present) option of removing unused ones?
Comment 4 Martin Matula 2004-11-05 08:38:03 UTC
Future releases mean 4.1 and later. 4.0 has been "feature frozen"
since May...
