Description Lukas Jungmann 2005-01-25 20:48:40 UTC
[build 200501251900]

start IDE, set up new AS, restart IDE, start AS
from IDE, go to AS's context menu

=> you can see properties 2x:
   first opens "Customizer Dialog"
   second opens "<AS instance name> [running] -
Properties"

I think that having two options in context menu
with the same name which lead to different actions
is little bit confusing.

Please do not assign my name to bugs... YOu should use the generic
alias for j2ee issues.

j2eeserver bug while merging 2 nodes?

This is really annoying. Please fix it for beta.
(Possible fix: just rename one of the "properties")

I am not sure this is a P2. It does not look nice, but what does it
hurt other then your esthethical feelings?

Ultimately I would like to see one Properties action that will open
the server manager and select the server from where it was open.

The problem is that there was a Properties action showing the
properties window. Not all properties were moved to the customizer
that is used in server manager so sherold was not comfortable
replacing it with customizer. It is up to the app server plugin owner
to decide when all the important properties were moved to the
customizer and then kill the properties action. When this is done,
reassign this to j2eeserver and sherold. The next step will be that
sherold will add the properties action that will open the server
manager. This will be added into j2eeserver module to ensure
consistency (and also because it needs access to server manager ui).
Thanks.

It looks like the second properties action is being added because the
IDE knows that a node with a property sheet needs a 'Properties' menu
item.

I guess this goes back to my one of my objections with the current UI
philosophy: a Properties action should open a Property Sheet. Some
other action should open dialogs that behave like customizers.

I am commited to addressing this before beta. But it is NOT a P2.

The easy fix is to change the title of the action that opens the
customizer to have a title like "Customize".

The other choice is to integrate the Property data, that appears in
the sheet as a panel in the tabbed pane.
