I'm using NB 4.1/M8v2/JDK1.5.0_04 on WinXP. Selecting a root method from the Profiling Tasks dialog is not as easy as it was with M7. Here's what I do: 1. Select Analyze Performance 2. Click Part of Application 3. Click the Select button. This brings up the Root Methods dialog 4. Click the Add button 5. Click the Select button. This brings up the Go To Class dialog. This new Go To Class dialog is very different than what was available in M7. With the M8 dialog I have to type in the name of the class (or the first part of the name) and I'm shown some options that match. That's an acceptable and common UI, but I liked the old way better: the package structure was shown and I could drill down into the class that I wanted. That way I don't have to know the beginning of the class name in order to select it for profiling - a common problem when dealing with large projects where a single person did not write all the code.
I tend to agree, the previous way worked better for some usecases. I'll play more with the alternatives.
Done in M9, the old Class select tree is back
