This Bugzilla instance is a read-only archive of historic NetBeans bug reports. To report a bug in NetBeans please follow the project's instructions for reporting issues.
After installing M11 Profiler, netbeans hangs on "Turning on modules..." phase. This occurs only when installing NetBeans from an AFS partition (www.openafs.org implementation). Installing NB5+Profiler on /tmp (mounted on local hard disk) seems to work fine. This is important to fix -or at least warn about- because many organizations use the AFS filesystem to view/share files over the network. What did I do to get this bug: 1. Install NetBeans5 (I used Beta2) on an AFS-mounted space (aka. /afs/... ) 2. Start NetBeans, it loads successfully and works fine. 3. Install Profiler, on the appropriate subdirectory (on AFS). 4. Start NetBeans, it hangs when "Turning on modules..." is displayed. I managed to reproduce this bug every time I repeated the above procedure. Using OpenAFS implementation, ver. 1.3.87.
Can you please attach a thread dump of the IDE in the stalled state?
Further investigation revealed that this is must be an issue with the AFS kernel module. The Profiler (or Netbeans generally, for that matter) has nothing to do with that. This must be the case because the system hangs up completely (even network logins are not accepted). When attempting to reboot (with CTRL+ALT+DEL) the kernel sillently logs that the AFS module is stalled. It remains a mystery why this happens only when Profiler is installed. Sorry for the inconvenience.
