Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Synchronous BPEL Process Sample.
2. Open SyncronousSample.bpel in Design View mode.
3. Select Assign1 activity.
4. Select End activity.
5. Select BPEL Variables Window or Watches Window.
Then the Watches Window is selected the content of BPEL Mapper background have
to be filled gray but indeed it stays intact until it is overlapped by other
application or full redraw of IDE (for example then minimizing).

Can not reproduce. 
Please provide more information: screenshots, description of layout of netbeans components and so on.
