1. previous version of OOo was probably 3.0.1

2. installed (dragged and dropped) version 3.1.0 of OOo

3. launched application

4. opted to check for updates automatically, entered no user details, opted to never register

5. Tools menu | Extension Manager…

6. Check for Updates…
