Description edgardol 2005-05-14 23:54:42 UTC
I receive Powerpoint presentations that contain sound.
I open any of them with OpenOffice's Impress.
I start the presentation pressing "F5".
The presentation plays with no sound.
The same presentation plays with sound in MS PowerPoint.
I tried with OpenOffice 1.9.79 and 1.9.100.

Reassigned.
Comment 3 christian.guenther 2005-06-03 12:49:06 UTC
set to new and change the target.
Comment 4 christian.guenther 2005-06-03 12:53:30 UTC
I can reproduce the bug.
We can't play the sound over the whole presentation like PPT but we should play
the sound on the first slide.
Please have a look.

In my computer, sound doesn't play at all. Not even in the first slide.

This is a general ppt filter issue (import and export): if a sound object is
embedded in a presentation, which is then saved as a Microsoft Powerpoint
97/2000/XP presentation, the sound is not retained. When it is opened again in
Impress or opened in Powerpoint, the sound is no longer there.

Equally, if a sound is embedded in a presentation using powerpoint, it will only
appear as a speaker icon in Impress (the icon that PowerPoint uses). There will
be no associated sound.

I think the reporter of issue 39498 might have had this bug in mind when
reporting it, but it got marked as a duplicate of something else

@sj: looks like a PPT impex problem. Would you please have a look?

Any chance of having this fixed in 2.3, ... maybe 2.4 ?
Attached is another example.
In this example, the music starts at the second "click", and stops at the fifth,
when using OO 2.2.0.

I'm not able to switch as many family/friends to OO, since they keep receiving
this type of incompatible ppt files very often.

Thanks for any help !

Hi. The sound in the first example presentation is in .wav files encoded with
mp3. Do you have Java and the JMF plugin and the mp3 plugin installed?
(ttp://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/index.jsp) I think
that is used for sound playback in OOo Impress. I have that, but I am still
struggling to make it work. I am not 100% sure the plugin is installed
correctly, but the Media Player in Impress can play my mp3 files.
But not your file. IT throws an error:

Unable to handle format: mpeglayer3, 8000.0 Hz, 16-bit, Mono, LittleEndian,
Signed, 1000.0 frame rate, FrameSize=8 bits
Failed to realize: com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@1d0fafc
Error: Unable to realize com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@1d0fafc
Failed to realize: input media not supported: mpeglayer3 audio

Even though mp3 format is supported by my installation. The only thing I can see
is that it is 8Khz format, which the mp3 plugin doesn't list as supported (in
jmfregistry).

The second presentation plays fine. I am using OOo 3 on linux.

I just tested with version 3.1

The second example works fine now. THANKS !

The first example now plays the music, but the slides don't advance with the
music. (I tried the default slide show settings, and a few more cases.)

Maybe this issue should be now re-labeled as a "music/slide show
synchronization" issue. I don't know how to do that. Help would be appreciated.
